"Cybercriminals Hijacked a Government Server to Send Sophisticated Malware to U.S. Companies"

Research conducted by Cisco’s Talos team and other cybersecurity experts has revealed the hijacking of U.S. state government servers by an Eastern European to distribute phishing emails containing complex malware. An advanced persistent (APT) group that has been named “FIN7” was discovered to be behind the distribution of these phishing emails, which appeared to be sent from the Securities and Exchange Commission. This article further discusses the details of this attack in relation to its targets, process, and nontraditional tactics used, along with  why this attack is significant to the security research community.
