"How to improve IoT security"

Security challenges arise as the use of Internet of Things (IoT) continues to grow. Devices connected to the internet can pose risks to the safety, security, and privacy of users. A recent meta-study titled, “The Internet of Hackable Things”, in which multiple industry and academic research reports were gathered, indicate the significant risks posed by IoT devices used in healthcare, smart homes, and buildings. Risks associated with IoT devices arise from the collection of information, lack of password complexity requirements, enabled identification of valid user accounts by hackers, unencrypted network services, and vulnerable user interfaces. Researchers suggest that in order to solve the IoT security problem, a security culture must be cultivated. This article further discusses the findings of this meta-study in relation to the risks posed by IoT devices, why IoT security problems arise, who is responsible for the security of IoT devices, and how to solve the IoT security problem.
