Researchers at University of Wisconsin- Madison have developed a detailed map that outlines the structure of the worldwide internet called the “Internet Atlas”. This map considers physical elements not visible to the average user, but are crucial to the infrastructure of the internet. Elements include submarine cables buried underneath the ocean floor and distributed between continents to support communication as well as data centers containing many different types of data that are held within buildings around the world.
